Dance music as a genre has given us probably the most groundbreaking of all pop promo's in the past 20 years, with artists like Massive Attack, Aphex Twin, Basement Jaxx and of course Fatboy Slim amongst others. Around the turn of the new millennium a week wouldn't go by without a challenging new pop promo, particularly from the dance community, both entertaining and shocking us. This week has seen two startling new promos from Duck Sauce and Soulwax, which take us back to the glory years. Its fresh, beautifully executed and probably rated NSFW.

A couple of weeks ago, I expressed surprise that YouTube was not a priority platform for the majority of marketers. Then The New York Times reported that YouTube is making a play to become the online destination of choice for video marketers.
Part of the pitch was that unlike television, YouTube incorporates social elements by inviting viewers to choose whether they watch, share or create their own videos about advertisers’ products. But now that I think about it further, is that really YouTube’s major strength?

As whimsy as it seems to put Shippam’s Paste and engaging social media campaign in the same sentence, the brand’s twitter profile has amassed over 6,000 followers (‘Shippamates’) in less than a week, with followers increasing by thousands daily.
