Ben Folds exploits his own hype?

Following the buzz around the Pianoman on ChatRoulette last week who we all thought might be Ben Folds (of Five fame, that's Ben Folds Five not Five the 80's family pop catastrophe), during a live show Ben has himself replied to what we think might be his own ChatRoulette film.

Confused? You shouldn't be...

Watch this. Its art.

Unfortunately the video got taken down!

This is the original film (is it Ben, you decide?)

This is a great example of how to respond to (and exploit) a small wave of attention online. A good lesson for brands here. Ben only had a window of a few days to be able to do this and keep it fun and relevant. It must have taken a little bit of planning but it was worth the effort and has made a small show in Charlotte a small global event. Maybe I'm a sentimental old fool but at points I found this quite touching, the way the energy from the live gig can connect with strangers remotely, digitally in binary.
