Paddy Power gets up to its old cheeky tricks again with latest TV ad
Not one for shying away from being a little mischievous with its marketing messages, we’re happy to see that Paddy Power’s strategy for 2014 hasn’t changed. Its latest TV ad, created by Crispin Porter + Bogusky, takes a poke at lazy millionaire footballers – you know the type: the lazy, out of shape, and yet still very well paid footballer.
Well, the new ad shines the ‘Ball of Shame’ spotlight on the type of footballers regularly cursed in post-match debates across the country. Whether it’s the guy who can’t get in his kit or the one who spends more time sitting down than the Made in Chelsea cast, well as Paddy Power says: “they all deserve a new year’s kick up the behind’.
Accompanying the ad is a decathlon of laziness, with the bookmaker releasing stats from the first half of the Premier League season that name and shame those who provide the least bang for substantial buck! Via its blog and across social media, Paddy Power will unveil the winners of categories with chuckle-worthy titles including ‘The Keeping a Low Profile Award’, the ‘Knocking Off Early Gong’ and the ‘Sitting Pretty Honour’. After the contenders in the 10 categories have been decided, the laziest players in the league will be announced and the fans of the unlucky club who employs the shameful overall winner will receive a reward from the bookmaker.
“You’d expect players from the biggest league in the world to be fit, hardworking, and professional but picking up fifty grand a week doesn’t seem to be enough motivation for some! Our new ad pokes fun at the guys who seem more bothered about the canteen lunch menu than they do their club’s league position,” said a Paddy Power spokesman.
