While 2013 might not have given all the supermarket bosses the Christmas sales figures they wished for, last year’s Christmas TV ads certainly didn’t disappoint in the creativity stakes.
And how could it not when John Lewis’ emotive ‘Bear and the Hare’ ad had so much build up to its theatrical debut, taking up an entire X-Factor ad break! I have to admit, I’m a big fan of Christmas TV ads – I mean, tell me you don’t get that warm fuzzy feeling inside when the Coca-Cola trucks jingles onto your TV screen each year?
Some new research from marketing, communications and digital recruiter EMR has given us a glimpse into the views of marketing professionals on the best ads of 2013. Check out the top five supermarket Christmas TV ads:
1. M&S – ‘Believe in Magic and Sparkle’ (36%)
2. Sainsbury’s – ‘Christmas in a Day’ (26%)
3. Waitrose – ‘The story of...’ (19%)
4. Tesco – ‘There’s nothing better than Christmas’ (8%)
5. Morrisons – ‘Go on... It’s Christmas’ (8%)
If they say creativity can only get better, I can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2014.
