More hits and misses from 2010

HIT

It’s a well known fact of life, that Virgin Atlantic make good ads. My personal favourite was the “How Deep is Your Love?” ad from 2007, and before that there were all those Upper Class ads featuring urbane sophisticates like Marianne Faithfull and Miss Piggy. And of course, there was the genius “Still Red Hot” campaign, with its nods to the 80s.

Their latest ad which started airing at the end of 2010 is another slick, sexy and slightly cheeky affair. Evoking the title sequences of classic Bond films, “Your airline’s either got it, or it hasn’t” features a Muse soundtrack and silhouettes of flying air hostesses, and yet somehow manages to stay just the right side of pretentious.

MISS

Hair product ads are never going to be ground breaking. Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse with Davina McCall phoning her mother to talk about L’Oreal hair colouring, Pantene enlist TV presenter Cat Deeley for the most irritating 30 seconds of your life. Every time she says “swish” you’ll want to punch your screen.*

*Cream does not accept any responsibility for any damage inflicted to your computer in a fit of “swish” rage.
