The joys of Royal Mail

The UK's Royal Mail is not winning any brownie points with the series of union strikes over the past few weeks.

The CWU has launched a series of regional and national strikes to protest against the Royal Mail's cost cutting initiatives to improve efficiency.

The Royal Mail argues that volumes are down by 10% year on year, with every 1% decline costing the Royal Mail £70m in lost revenues. It says that the changes have been successfully made in most parts of the UK.

Either way, it is the Royal Mail brand and small businesses that rely on post that suffer. This was perfectly illustrated by the arrival of a colleague's birthday flowers today, two weeks after the event:
