Look out Wikipedia - Here comes Facebook!

Okay, so Wikipedia represents the democratisation of knowledge on the internet, blah blah blah. We get the idea, and a jolly good idea it is too. In fact Dear Reader, I'd strongly recommend checking out Jimmy Wales (founder of Wikipedia) and his presentation "Web 3.0 and the Fabric of Life" from the Festival of Media area on Cream.

That said, Facebook is now entering the same territory (what a surprise). A new Q&A facility that is set to appear soon will allow users to post questions alongside their status updates, allowing the Facebook community to respond.

Facbook-questions-site

This rather optimistic example shows Facebookers nattering on about cars, although frankly I don't hold out much hope. Be prepared for thousands of "What shall I have for lunch?" type questions. The democratisation of knowledge continues. Hurrah.

You meant to say "too", not "to". Oh, and Jimmy Wales isn't "founder" of Wikipedia. Larry Sanger was more the founder, since the wiki structure was his idea, he pitched it to Wales, he named it "Wikipedia", and he nurtured most of the guidelines and policies that still govern the site today. Wales took about 30 minutes to install the wiki software on his company's server. If that's what a "founder" does, then I'm Porky Pig.

Good spot Gregory, although in Mark's defence he posted this very early this morning! But it was a good spot, well done.

Any Jimmy Wales story always inspires comment, which is always much appreciated. Keep in touch!

Rather lulzy. Kohs doesn't mention that Sanger was following Wales idea of a free encyclopedia, was Wales employee until shortly before he left, and he didn't come up with the wiki idea himself, he talked to someone who had experienced the obscure idea of a wiki by then and recommended it to him.

Any claims by Sanger boil down to "LOL I WAS THERE THE FIRST YEAR BEFORE I RAGEQUIT". If Sanger's really a "founder", then I'm Daffy Duck. Quack quack.
